Britain’s greatest 20th century composer had a long and fruitful relationship with Decca. All of Britten’s major works were recorded either under his supervision or with Britten as conductor or pianist. In addition, Britten’s work as a conductor of other composer’s music is also well documented. He was a deeply sympathetic Mozartian and he brought a freshness and vitality to baroque music which has rarely been matched since.
