Formed in 1976, the nine-time Grammy-winning Emerson String Quartet has become renowned as one of the most dynamic and polished chamber ensembles in the classical music world. Its long and illustrious performing career will come to a close in October this year, and among the many highlights of its final season has been the completion of a Shostakovich cycle at London’s Southbank Centre. To celebrate the ensemble’s enduring legacy in this repertoire, DG are reissuing the ESQ’s recordings of the complete Shostakovich string quartets in a new 5 CD capbox edition.
